Join us for the 13th Annual
South Otselic Fishing & Heritage Day

In partnership with the South Otselic Fish Culture Station and Gladding Braided Products, LLC, the Otselic Valley Fishing & Heritage Association (OVF&HA) is proud to announce its thirteenth annual Fishing & Heritage Day will be held on Saturday, May 21st, from 9am to 4pm in the hamlet of South Otselic. Fishing & Heritage Day will include many popular activities as well as new offerings at the State Fish Hatchery, the Otselic Town Park, and other locations within the hamlet. Some of this year's plans include:

Friday, May 20th:

Georgetown Fire Department

Friday, May 20th at 5pm

Fish dinner and chicken tenders, Proceeds to benefit the Fire Department. Located 10 miles north of S. Otselic at intersection of St Hwys 26 and 80

Saturday, May 21st:

Multiple Locations in Town

9am-10am

OVCS Band starts marching at 9 am, ending up in the park at 10 am joined by the OVCS Chorus.

1pm Duck Derby
at the Gorge Creek Bridge

1st place: $200, 2nd place: $100, 3rd place: $50

Tickets for each duck are $5, please email Alison Parrott at aparrott@ovcs.org to purchase a ticket.

Proceeds to benefit the OV FFA and the OVF&HA.

State Fish Hatchery (1)

9am-4pm

Fish rearing tanks, aquarium, special exhibits, fly casting and fly tying.


10am-12pm and 1pm-4pm

Painting Fantastical Creatures and Scenery of the Otselic Valley: Demonstrations by local artist Adam Schmidt, supplies and seating available to paint along! All ages welcome. Seating limited, contact OV.Fishing.Heritage@gmail.com to reserve a spot.

1pm-3pm

Cornhole Tournament (social and competitive divisions). Prizes to be won! Cornhole boards will be available all day for practice and recreation play.


Format:
A double elimination tournament in two divisions, a social division and a competitive division. Both divisions will consist of two-person teams of either male or female.

Cost:
There will not be any cost for teams in the social division, for teams in the competitive division there will be a $10 fee per team.

Registration:
We ask that you use the email address: sotfishingday@gmail.com, to register your team for either event. Be sure to include your name and teammate’s name. Payment will be due on the day of the event.

Prizes:
In the social division, there will be two $20 gift certificates from local businesses given to the first place team.

In the competitive division, there will also be two $20 gift certificates from local businesses given to the first place team, and in addition the first place team will receive 50% of the total entry fees, and the second place team will receive 20% of the total entry fees. The field size will be limited, so please register your team as soon as possible to avoid missing a spot in the event. If you do not have a teammate and would still like to play, contact us and we will try to put you in touch with others who are looking for a teammate.

Youth Fishing Programs by Mike Riordan.


Young anglers are invited to try their hand at fishing in one of the NY State’s Fish Hatchery ponds in South Otselic that is specially stocked with trout.

There is no fee or fishing license required and bait is provided. You may bring your own pole or use one provided by the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC). Fisheries staff and Trout Unlimited volunteers will be available to instruct and assist. People under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

Town Park (3)

Gary Morley will serve as music DJ, singer and program announcer.

Tractor Show Weekend (4)

Sat. and Sun. 8am-5pm

Displaying vintage tractors and machinery.


Saturday Only starts at 1pm:

Parade of Tractors, starts at the school.


Saturday Only starts 2-2:30pm:

Kiddie tractor pulls.


Sunday Only:

Activities include plowing fields and demonstrating vintage machinery. Thanks to Arnie Huntley for use of his land.

Pictorial cancellation postmark commemorating this year's Fishing & Heritage Day. This special postmark will be available at the Post Office in South Otselic for 30 days only.

Brochures can be found at the event. A FREE, ongoing shuttle bus (small school bus) will be making continuous rounds between the fishing clinic pond, the hatchery, the town park, the school/grange, etc.
