Join us for the 14th Annual
South Otselic Fishing & Heritage Day

In partnership with the South Otselic Fish Culture Station and Gladding Braided Products, LLC, the Otselic Valley Fishing & Heritage Association (OVF&HA) is proud to announce its fourteenth annual Fishing & Heritage Day will be held on Saturday, May 20th, from 9am to 4pm in the hamlet of South Otselic. Fishing & Heritage Day will include many popular activities as well as new offerings at the State Fish Hatchery, the Otselic Town Park, and other locations within the hamlet. Some of this year's plans include:

Friday, May 19th:

Georgetown Fire Department

Friday, May 19th at 5pm

Fish dinner and chicken tenders, Proceeds to benefit the Fire Department. Located 10 miles north of S. Otselic at intersection of St Hwys 26 and 80. Take-out ONLY.

Saturday, May 20th:

Multiple Locations in Town

9am-10am

OVCS Band starts marching at 9 am, ending up in the park at 10 am joined by the OVCS Chorus.

1pm Duck Derby
at the Gorge Creek Bridge

1st place: $200, 2nd place: $100, 3rd place: $50

Tickets for each duck are $5, please email Andrea Lehmann at ALehman@ovcs.org to purchase a ticket.

Proceeds to benefit the OV FFA and the OVF&HA.

State Fish Hatchery (1)

9am-4pm

Fish rearing tanks, aquarium, special exhibits, fly casting and fly tying.


Friends of Rogers Environmental Education Center - Pond Ecology


9am - 2pm

Rock Painting Fun with Artselic.


10am-12pm and 1pm-4pm

Portrait Painting: Demonstrations by local artist Adam Schmidt, supplies and seating available to paint along! All ages welcome. Seating limited.

This program is made possible with public funds from the Statewide Community Regrants Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature, and administered by The Earlville Opera House.


2pm-3pm

Cornhole Tournament

An organized competition for all ages on the cornhole boards, with prizes to the winners. No cost, no prior registration and no equipment required.

Fishing Pond (2)

9am-4pm

Youth Fishing Programs by Mike Riordan.


9am - 11:30am and 12:30pm - 3pm

Fishing Clinics


Young anglers are invited to try their hand at fishing in one of the NY State’s Fish Hatchery ponds in South Otselic that is specially stocked with trout.

There is no fee or fishing license required and bait is provided. You may bring your own pole or use one provided by the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC). Fisheries staff and Trout Unlimited volunteers will be available to instruct and assist. People under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

Town Park (3)

9am-1pm

Gary Morley will serve as music DJ, singer and program announcer.


9am-4pm

Arts, crafts, antiques and food vendors.


9am-4pm

Grace Brown exhibit in the Town Hall


10:30am - 3pm

Dan “The Snake Man” will have an exhibit of live snakes and reptiles.


1-1:45pm and 2-2:45pm

The Four Corners String Band (consisting of members: Steve Ellsworth, Annie Simpson, Claudia Griffin, Patrick Fedele).

Valley View Cemetery (4)

11am and 3pm

Mike Foor-Pessin will lead a guided tour of the cemetery that will highlight Grace Brown’s life at the beginning of the 20th century.

Center of Town (5)

1:30 pm

Tractor Show Parade.


9am-4pm

Display of antique tractors and "hit 'n miss" engines.


9am-4pm

Valley Busters 4-H Club: Small farm animals, snow cones and children's activities.

The Sunshine Shop (6)

9am-4pm

Thrift shop offering clothes and small household items.


South Otselic Store (7)

7am-7pm

Sandwiches, groceries and bait.

9am-8pm

Gladding Braided Products (8)

9am-4pm

Gladding's vintage rope-braiding machine. Savage Carvings will be demonstrating and selling wildlife chainsaw carvings. A 3’ Eagle Carving will be raffled to benefit OVF&HA. Tickets are $5 each or 4 for $20, and will be available event Day at the welcome tent, or can be purchased in advance by sending a check to OVF&HA, P.O. Box 113, South Otselic, NY 13155

Otselic Valley Grange #1398 (9)

11am-4pm

"Women clothing a Nation- one family at a time": an exhibit with vintage looms, spinning wheels and sewing machines. Bake sale and quilt show.

Barbecue beef luncheon.

Open House and chicken barbeque (takeout).

Pictorial cancellation postmark commemorating this year's Fishing & Heritage Day. This special postmark will be available at the Post Office in South Otselic for 30 days only.

Event Information

Brochures can be found at the event. A FREE, ongoing shuttle bus (small school bus) will be making continuous rounds between the fishing clinic pond, the hatchery, the town park, the school/grange, etc.
