For over two hundred years, the Otselic River has been a popular place for sports fishing. The communities of the Town of Otselic have grown and thrived along its banks, as have the former Gladding Fish Line Co. (now Gladding Braided Products, LLC) and the New York State Fish Culture station. This river extends 55.4 miles from west of Erieville, NY to Whitney Point where it becomes a tributary of the Tioughnioga River. Along its banks are 22 miles of public fishing rights with eight designated public access/parking areas, along or near State Route 26. This oil on canvas by Michael Sheridan shows the view of the Otselic River from the middle of the bridge in the center of South Otselic, facing north.
